Personal Profile

As a Canberra born baby boomer I have lived here most of my life. My first experiences in photography were in the late 60’s when I studied photography at High School. It was then that I started doing wedding and general commercial photography part time. I set up a home darkroom and produced my own black and white and colour prints.

In 1974 after leaving High School I moved to Melbourne and commenced serious study of photography. I enrolled in the full time Diploma of Illustrative Photography course at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

After completing the first year of this course I transferred back to Canberra and commenced a four year NSW Photography Certificate Course at the Canberra Institute Of Technology (CIT) which I graduated from in 1977. During my study period I worked full time at the ANU as a Photo Services Provider, while continuing my private wedding, portrait and photographic business.

Photography has been a major part of my life for the last 30 years. My commercial photographic business flourished with my covering in excess of 900 weddings. I’m proud to say my photographs grace the lounge rooms of hundreds of homes in Canberra and Queanbeyan. My specialty is photographing people. Capturing them with stunning lighting and posing at just the right decisive moment in time; this produces a special image to be treasured for years to come. Studio lighting can more easily achieve this, but location shooting using fill-in flash and soft light reflectors is also very effective but more challenging.

In 1997 digital cameras hit the scene with a huge impact. Digital imaging began to capture my interest as well as so many other people. Shortly after, I was offered a managerial position in photographic retailing (something I had also done in the early 80s). I accepted this position as I wanted to gain knowledge of the numerous types of digital still and video cameras, and the amazing software programs like Adobe Photoshop and Pinnacle Studio now available. These added a new dimension to my photographic knowledge with a lot of new possibilities developing.

In addition to my commercial photography, I started private tutoring people confused by this new technology. I now offer tutoring services on still film and digital cameras, video cameras, photographic techniques & software programs such as Photoshop & Pinnacle Studio in my home studio or if more convenient your place.

This website is my contribution to the digital era. It outlines the services I can provide and will gradually showcase my work.
